- Design Awards
For those scouts who care more about the appearance of their car versus speed, we have four design awards to be distributed to the entire pack:
- Best overall design
- Most realistic
- Best Scouting theme
- Most unique or funny.
Rules
Please remember to follow the rules which are included with the car kits:
- NO PRE-BUILT PURCHASED DERBY CARS!
- The car must not weigh over 5 ounces
- Only powdered graphite can be used as lubricant
- Cars must be 7” long (length of the original block)
- Width between wheels must be 1 3/4” (width of the original block)
- A 4 3/8” wheelbase (distance as measured between original block’s axle slots)
- All other rules included in the derby kit or at this link.
- Derby Cars must be completed & turned in for check in, weigh in & storage Friday February 27th 6pm-8pm at the Holly Lake Campsites.
Any Derby Cars not meeting the rules may be fixed/adjusted & re-tested. If they still fail, they may still race, but no award may be earned.
If you have any specific questions about the rules or derby in general, feel free to email leadership and we will gladly answer your questions.
Very, very basic emergency car repair materials will be available, do not arrive needing extra weight, or graphite.
Please remember that the Pinewood Derby is to be a learning experience for your scouts to build and show their car (as much as age appropriate). Do not purchase a car or race kit. Do not build the entire car for your scout. Neither of those teaches your scout any skills and it is unfair to the other scouts who worked hard on their car.
