How much does it cost?

Pack 1 is a non-profit and all of our leaders donate their time to serve the pack and scouts. We are extremely conscientious about trying to keep costs as low possible.  Cost should never prevent your child from joining or participating in scouts.  If cost is ever an issue, please contact the Cubmaster or Committee Chair and we have resources to help.

One-time Joining Fee

There is a one time fee to join Cub Scouts.  For 2022, the current fee is $25.

Annual Dues

There are two separate dues payments and schedules; National BSA & Council dues and our local Pack 1 dues:

National BSA and Del-Mar-Va Council Dues

National BSA and Del-Mar-Va Council dues are an annual payment and are for one year from the date of your payment.  

Current dues (through at least May 2024) are:

  • $80.00 National BSA
  • $48 Del-Mar-Va Council

If you are a newly registered scout since August 1, 2023 then you have an annual membership that runs for the calendar year which will automatically renew in one year (unless if canceled).

Scouts that registered with BSA prior to August 1, 2023 have an annual membership that runs for the calendar year (Jan 1st – Dec 31st).  For these scouts, Pack 1 must pay the dues for each active scout and their membership will be good for one more year (through December 31, 2024) at which point your renewal will transition to individual yearly payments.  Scouts BSA will email you in 2024 with more information and instructions on how to renew.

Pack 1 Dues

Pack 1’s dues are once per year and are for the scouting program year which runs from September through August.  Pack 1’s dues must be paid before December 01, 2023 for the 2023-2024 program year.

Current dues for the Sept. 2023 – Aug. 2024 program year are $75.00.  

Pack 1’s dues go to items such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • The scouts insignia, patches and awards
  • Special events such as Pinewood Derby kits, etc.
  • Funding the dens for activities
  • Leadership training and registration fees (currently $60 per adult leader)
  • Neckerchiefs at Crossover
Camping trips costs are not covered in the annual dues since these are optional trips and not everyone may want to participate in them.  Therefore we set a cost for each individual camping trip per scout and
adult.

Total Dues

New Scouts registered since August 1, 2023:
Your National BSA & council dues are on an annual renewal payment from the date of registration and will automatically renew one year from that date (unless if canceled).  Your dues payment of $75.00 (less popcorn sales credit) is due by December 1, 2023 and covers the September 2023 – August 2024 program year.

Scouts registered prior to August 1, 2023:
Your National BSA & council dues must be paid by the Pack by December 1, 2023 to register your scout for an additional year (Jan 1 2024 – Dec 31 2024).  Your dues payment of $203 (less popcorn sales credit), which covers National BSA, Del-Mar-Va Council and Pack 1, must be paid to Pack 1 by December 1, 2023 to ensure that your scout remains registered for an additional year.  National BSA will then transition you to sign-up for an automatically recurring membership for future years registration.  BSA will be emailing you sometime in early 2024 to notify you of these changes and to provide further instructions.

Popcorn Sales Credit

To help lessen the burden of dues on our families, we provide credit that can be applied to your dues payment, to scouts who sell popcorn.  Each scout who sells $500 in popcorn plus donations receives a $50 credit.  For each $250 additional dollars of popcorn sold plus donations receives an additional $25 credit.

Typically, a scout who attends the recommended 3 storefront shifts of 2 hours each will earn anywhere from $50-$100 in credit.

All credit received will be emailed to you by November 10, 2023 in the form of a coupon code that can be applied at checkout when paying your dues.

Uniforms

Each scout needs a required uniform that is dependent on their current den/rank.  New scouts will need to purchase an entire uniform; however, after each year, they typically keep their shirt and belt therefore only a hat, neckerchief, neckerchief slide and handbook need to be purchased every year.  Please see the Field Uniform Purchase guide for more information on the exact requirements.
